Les grandes routes de l\u2019\u00e9poque d\u2019Edo pourraient appara\u00eetre comme de simples vestiges d\u2019un Japon r\u00e9volu. Pourtant, derri\u00e8re ces trac\u00e9s anciens se dessine une infrastructure politique et culturelle d\u2019une remarquable modernit\u00e9.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\t\u00c0 travers le projet \u00ab <em><a href=\"https:\/\/greatertokyo.jp\/\" target=\"_blank\">Edo Shogun Roads<\/a><\/em>, \u00bb les autorit\u00e9s japonaises entendent aujourd\u2019hui r\u00e9activer cet h\u00e9ritage, en transformant ces axes historiques en vecteurs d\u2019un tourisme renouvel\u00e9, accessible et profond\u00e9ment ancr\u00e9 dans les territoires.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tCes routes, emprunt\u00e9es autrefois par les seigneurs f\u00e9odaux mais aussi par les voyageurs ordinaires, reliaient Edo, l\u2019actuelle Tokyo, \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble du pays. Elles structuraient non seulement les d\u00e9placements, mais aussi les \u00e9changes \u00e9conomiques, les circulations culturelles et les formes de sociabilit\u00e9. Au c\u0153ur de ce dispositif se trouve un r\u00e9seau routier d\u2019environ 7 000 kilom\u00e8tres, dont toutes les voies principales partent d\u2019un point unique : Nihonbashi, dans le centre d\u2019Edo, symbole \u00e0 la fois g\u00e9ographique et politique de l\u2019ordre \u00e9tabli.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tCe r\u00e9seau, connu aujourd\u2019hui sous le nom d\u2019Edo Shogun Roads, repose sur cinq axes majeurs auxquels s\u2019ajoutent de nombreuses routes secondaires. Bien plus qu\u2019un simple ensemble de voies de communication, il constitue une v\u00e9ritable architecture du pouvoir. En imposant aux daimyos le syst\u00e8me du <em>sankin-k\u014dtai<\/em>, qui les contraint \u00e0 r\u00e9sider alternativement \u00e0 Edo et dans leurs domaines, le shogunat fait de ces routes les art\u00e8res vitales d\u2019un contr\u00f4le politique \u00e9troit. Chaque d\u00e9placement est un acte encadr\u00e9, surveill\u00e9, inscrit dans une logistique pr\u00e9cise.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tCette organisation s\u2019appuie sur des infrastructures sp\u00e9cifiques. Le long des routes, des relais de poste sont am\u00e9nag\u00e9s \u00e0 intervalles r\u00e9guliers, offrant h\u00e9bergement, restauration et services aux voyageurs. Des postes de contr\u00f4le permettent de r\u00e9guler les flux et de surveiller les d\u00e9placements, notamment pour pr\u00e9venir toute tentative de r\u00e9bellion. \u00c0 cela s\u2019ajoutent les <em>ichirizuka<\/em>, monticules de terre servant de rep\u00e8res kilom\u00e9triques, qui rythment la progression des voyageurs et mat\u00e9rialisent la distance parcourue.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tParmi ces axes, le <em>T\u014dkaid\u014d<\/em> occupe une place centrale. Reliant Edo \u00e0 Kyoto sur pr\u00e8s de 500 kilom\u00e8tres le long de la c\u00f4te pacifique, il concentre une activit\u00e9 intense, structur\u00e9e autour de ses 53 relais. Il devient rapidement un espace de circulation majeur, non seulement pour les autorit\u00e9s mais aussi pour les marchands et les p\u00e8lerins.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\t\u00c0 l\u2019inverse, le <em>Nakasend\u014d<\/em>, qui traverse l\u2019int\u00e9rieur montagneux du pays, offre une alternative plus longue mais moins expos\u00e9e aux al\u00e9as climatiques, notamment aux crues des grands fleuves. Ces deux routes illustrent la compl\u00e9mentarit\u00e9 d\u2019un syst\u00e8me con\u00e7u pour assurer la continuit\u00e9 des \u00e9changes en toutes circonstances.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tD\u2019autres axes r\u00e9pondent \u00e0 des logiques sp\u00e9cifiques. Le <em>Nikk\u014d Kaid\u014d<\/em>, menant au sanctuaire T\u014dsh\u014dg\u016b d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 Tokugawa Ieyasu, incarne la dimension symbolique et rituelle du pouvoir, tandis que le K\u014dsh\u016b Kaid\u014d, reliant Edo \u00e0 la r\u00e9gion de Kai, joue un r\u00f4le strat\u00e9gique et logistique, notamment pour l\u2019approvisionnement en ressources. L\u2019<em>\u014csh\u016b Kaid\u014d<\/em>, quant \u00e0 lui, ouvre la voie vers le nord du pays, assurant la connexion avec les territoires du T\u014dhoku et renfor\u00e7ant la pr\u00e9sence du pouvoir central dans ces r\u00e9gions.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tAu fil du temps, ces routes d\u00e9passent leur fonction initiale. Elles deviennent des espaces de vie, de commerce et de culture. Les voyageurs s\u2019y croisent, les r\u00e9cits s\u2019y \u00e9changent, les paysages s\u2019y contemplent. Des \u0153uvres comme les estampes d\u2019Utagawa Hiroshige ou les r\u00e9cits de voyage populaires contribuent \u00e0 forger un imaginaire collectif des routes d\u2019Edo, entre d\u00e9couverte, fatigue et \u00e9merveillement.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tAujourd\u2019hui encore, cet h\u00e9ritage reste perceptible. De nombreuses routes modernes, lignes ferroviaires et infrastructures contemporaines suivent les trac\u00e9s de ces anciens axes. Les vestiges de relais, les paysages pr\u00e9serv\u00e9s et les sites historiques permettent de saisir concr\u00e8tement la mani\u00e8re dont ces routes structuraient le territoire. Photo de l'auteur.\t\t<\/figcaption>\n\t<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<h2>Un projet touristique structurant \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle du Grand Kant\u014d<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tQuatre si\u00e8cles apr\u00e8s leur mise en place, les routes du shogunat font l\u2019objet d\u2019une r\u00e9interpr\u00e9tation ambitieuse \u00e0 la crois\u00e9e des politiques de valorisation patrimoniale et des strat\u00e9gies contemporaines d\u2019attractivit\u00e9 touristique. Port\u00e9 par le Bureau des transports du Kant\u014d, le projet \u00ab <em>Edo Shogun Roads<\/em> \u00bb s\u2019inscrit dans une logique de coordination r\u00e9gionale in\u00e9dite, mobilisant \u00e0 la fois les collectivit\u00e9s locales, les organisations de gestion de destination (DMO) et les acteurs priv\u00e9s du tourisme.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tLors de la conf\u00e9rence de presse annon\u00e7ant le lancement de la promotion internationale, la pr\u00e9sence conjointe de repr\u00e9sentants de plusieurs pr\u00e9fectures a d\u2019ailleurs illustr\u00e9 cette volont\u00e9 de d\u00e9cloisonnement, dans une r\u00e9gion o\u00f9 les dynamiques touristiques restent souvent centr\u00e9es sur Tokyo.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tLe p\u00e9rim\u00e8tre du projet d\u00e9passe en effet largement la capitale. Il englobe un vaste territoire d\u00e9sign\u00e9 comme le \u00ab <em>Grand Kant\u014d<\/em>, \u00bb comprenant Tokyo et dix pr\u00e9fectures, de Kanagawa \u00e0 Nagano en passant par Gunma, Tochigi ou encore Niigata et Fukushima.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tL\u2019enjeu est de redistribuer les flux touristiques en incitant les visiteurs, notamment internationaux, \u00e0 explorer des r\u00e9gions moins fr\u00e9quent\u00e9es mais riches en ressources culturelles et naturelles. En s\u2019appuyant sur la trame historique des anciennes routes d\u2019Edo, le projet propose une lecture coh\u00e9rente du territoire, structur\u00e9e par des itin\u00e9raires th\u00e9matiques et des exp\u00e9riences situ\u00e9es.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tAu c\u0153ur de cette strat\u00e9gie se trouve un dispositif de communication pens\u00e9 pour un public globalis\u00e9, habitu\u00e9 aux formats num\u00e9riques courts et immersifs. Le lancement d\u2019une s\u00e9rie de vid\u00e9os promotionnelles constitue l\u2019un des piliers de cette approche, offrant une compr\u00e9hension intuitive du concept d\u2019<em>Edo Shogun Roads<\/em>.
