Apr\u00e8s tout, le pays \u00e9tait du c\u00f4t\u00e9 des \u00ab\u00a0m\u00e9chants\u00a0\u00bb et des vaincus et n&rsquo;avait que ce qu&rsquo;il avait m\u00e9rit\u00e9\u2026 C&rsquo;est tout l&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat de <em>Sengo <\/em>de brosser un portrait sans concession de la situation horrifique qui pr\u00e9valait dans l&rsquo;imm\u00e9diat apr\u00e8s-guerre. D\u00e9sastre mat\u00e9riel, bien s\u00fbr : \u00e0 Tokyo, o\u00f9 commence le r\u00e9cit, plus de la moiti\u00e9 des habitations ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9truites ; d\u00e9sastre humain, encore plus : deux des six millions de soldats de l&rsquo;arm\u00e9e imp\u00e9riale sont morts, pour ne rien dire des victimes d&rsquo;Hiroshima et de Nagasaki. Mais d\u00e9sastre moral peut-\u00eatre encore plus : un peuple qui s&rsquo;\u00e9tait consid\u00e9r\u00e9 des d\u00e9cennies durant comme le ma\u00eetre naturel des races inf\u00e9rieures du reste de l&rsquo;Asie se r\u00e9veillait battu \u00e0 plate couture, ayant perdu et la guerre et l&rsquo;honneur.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\t<div class=\"bulle\">\n\t<em>*Sengo, tome 1 Retrouvailles, Tome 2 Initiation, <\/em>sc\u00e9nario et dessin Sansuke Yamada, 184 pages le volume, Casterman, 9,45 euros le volume.<\/div>Les personnages principaux de <em>Sengo*, <\/em>manga annonc\u00e9 en sept volumes dont les deux premiers viennent de para\u00eetre, sont deux militaires d\u00e9mobilis\u00e9s. Tokutaro \u00e9tait sergent-chef dans l&rsquo;arm\u00e9e imp\u00e9riale et avait sous ses ordres Kadomatsu, simple trouffion vouant une v\u00e9n\u00e9ration sans borne \u00e0 son sup\u00e9rieur. Le premier, \u00e0 la d\u00e9rive, vivote en g\u00e9rant vaguement une \u00e9choppe de soupe de riz dans une rue de la ville et en fricotant avec la mafia locale, toutes choses qui lui laissent beaucoup de temps pour s&rsquo;adonner \u00e0 la boisson. Tokyo <em>\u00ab\u00a0grouille de gens dont les maisons ont br\u00fbl\u00e9 et qui meurent de faim parce qu&rsquo;ils n&rsquo;ont plus un sou\u00a0\u00bb, <\/em>fait remarquer \u00e0 Tokutaro une amie tenanci\u00e8re de bistrot en refusant de le servir, ajoutant aimablement qu&rsquo;elle <em>\u00ab\u00a0a en horreur les hommes qui se comportent comme des baudruches d\u00e9gonfl\u00e9es alors que le sort leur a fait la fleur de les \u00e9pargner\u00a0\u00bb. <\/em>Les humiliations sont constantes. Alors que Kadomatsu lance une remarque acerbe sur le passage d&rsquo;une jolie Japonaise pendue au bras d&rsquo;un soldat am\u00e9ricain, cette derni\u00e8re lui r\u00e9torque, implacable : <em>\u00ab\u00a0Si nos bonshommes avaient bien voulu se donner la peine de gagner la guerre, on n&rsquo;en serait pas r\u00e9duites \u00e0 \u00e7a !\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tComme il faut bien vivre, puisque l&rsquo;on n&rsquo;est pas mort, Kadomatsu, force de la nature, maladroit et bon vivant par temp\u00e9rament, se fait camelot pour faire venir les clients \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9choppe de son chef. \u00c0 la faveur d&rsquo;une rencontre avec une ancienne amie devenue prostitu\u00e9e, le voil\u00e0 devenu garde du corps de celle-ci et de trois de ses coll\u00e8gues, ce qui offre quelques avantages en nature. Mais au-del\u00e0 des p\u00e9rip\u00e9ties parfois grand-guignolesques, le mal-\u00eatre demeure entier. Pendant la guerre, se souvient Tokutaro, <em>\u00ab\u00a0je n&rsquo;avais qu\u2019une obsession en t\u00eate : faire en sorte que ma propre mort soit flamboyante\u00a0\u00bb. <\/em>Le r\u00e9sultat ? <em>\u00ab\u00a0Les hommes dont j&rsquo;avais la charge ont p\u00e9ri par ma faute et moi, je tra\u00eene toujours mes gu\u00eatres en ce bas monde.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tDans le deuxi\u00e8me volume, le r\u00e9cit retourne en arri\u00e8re, pendant la guerre. On y assiste \u00e0 la rencontre entre les deux hommes, quand Tokutaro a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 \u00e0 la t\u00eate d&rsquo;une escouade de fortes t\u00eates dont faisait partie Kadomatsu. Pas de combats avec l&rsquo;ennemi \u2013 l&rsquo;histoire se d\u00e9roule en Chine \u2013 mais des sc\u00e8nes de caserne et de maisons closes pour soldats. Avec des ambiances qui vont du comique (dans le deuxi\u00e8me cas) au tragique quand les trouffions se voient contraints, \u00e0 titre d&rsquo;entra\u00eenement au maniement de la ba\u00efonnette, d&#8217;embrocher des Chinois ligot\u00e9s \u00e0 un arbre\u2026\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tLes continuels changements de ton, du grivois \u00e0 la nostalgie, de l&rsquo;humour h\u00e9naurme au d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9, constituent une des caract\u00e9ristiques fortes de ce r\u00e9cit plein de finesse. On s&rsquo;attache imm\u00e9diatement \u00e0 ces deux personnages \u00e0 la d\u00e9rive, ainsi qu&rsquo;\u00e0 leurs compagnons et \u00e0 leurs nombreuses compagnes, tous occup\u00e9s, chacun \u00e0 sa fa\u00e7on, \u00e0 essayer de redonner un sens \u00e0 leur existence. Pour le lecteur fran\u00e7ais, qui plus est, ces volumes pr\u00e9sentent l&rsquo;avantage d&rsquo;\u00eatre dessin\u00e9s dans un style qui semble parfois plus proche de la BD franco-belge que des mangas traditionnels, comme on peut le voir en particulier dans les couvertures. Dans cette ville qui est alors la capitale du Raj, l&#8217;empire britannique des Indes, une s\u00e9rie de meurtres frappe la colonie anglaise. Point commun des victimes : il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;anciens officiers de la Compagnie des Indes qui ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la r\u00e9pression sanglante de la r\u00e9volte des Cipayes intervenue en 1857. Ce soul\u00e8vement extr\u00eamement violent des soldats indiens employ\u00e9s par la Compagnie constitue la premi\u00e8re grande \u00e9tape de la lutte pour l&rsquo;ind\u00e9pendance qui ne d\u00e9bouchera qu&rsquo;en 1947. Dans cette atmosph\u00e8re pesante, un jeune m\u00e9decin fraichement d\u00e9barqu\u00e9 d&rsquo;Ecosse m\u00e8ne l&rsquo;enqu\u00eate.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tTh\u00e8me original et int\u00e9ressant pour cette BD, donc.
