Le gotha du milieu s\u2019y donne rendez-vous pendant quelques jours et plus particuli\u00e8rement pendant les journ\u00e9es tr\u00e8s priv\u00e9es qui lui sont r\u00e9serv\u00e9es, journ\u00e9es souvent suivies de diners grandioses offerts par les galeristes \u00e0 l\u2019aff\u00fbt de celui ou celle qui signera un ch\u00e8que de plusieurs millions de dollars pour acqu\u00e9rir une \u0153uvre exceptionnelle, parfois historique, souvent contemporaine.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tDepuis 1970 et sa premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition organis\u00e9e sous la baguette du l\u00e9gendaire galeriste Ernst Beyeler, la foire n\u2019a cess\u00e9 de grandir et de se transformer. Cette ann\u00e9e, 284 galeries ont \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9es par un comit\u00e9 compos\u00e9 de 5 personnes vivant \u00e0 Gen\u00e8ve, New York, Berlin, Turin et Zurich. Deux galeries indiennes figurent parmi les privil\u00e9gi\u00e9s : la galerie <em>Chemould Prescot Road<\/em> de Bombay et la galerie <em>SKE<\/em> de Bangalore, soit \u00e0 peine 1% de la s\u00e9lection. A l\u2019exception d\u2019une artiste, Sakshi Gupta, pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e par une galerie londonienne, elles sont venues pr\u00e9senter 7 artistes indiens. Sur 1496 artistes, 8 \u00e9taient donc indiens, soit 0.5 % des artistes expos\u00e9s. On a pu voir 4 d\u2019entre eux \u00e0 la fois sur les 2 stands indiens et simultan\u00e9ment sur 6 autres stands : Shilpa Gupta, Jitish Kallat, Bharti Kher et Sudarshan Shetty, une ambassade que l\u2019on retrouve tr\u00e8s souvent sur les foires et expositions internationales, comme s\u2019il n\u2019y avait qu\u2019eux d\u2019ailleurs. (Cr\u00e9dit : DR)\t\t<\/figcaption>\n\t<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tAlors que j\u2019entends professionnels et journalistes dire depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es : \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019art contemporain indien va exploser sur les march\u00e9s internationaux\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0il est nouveau et original\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0il entre dans les grandes collections priv\u00e9es et publiques\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0il est l\u2019avenir du jeune collectionneur\u00a0\u00bb, il est le grand absent de la plus grande foire d\u2019art contemporain au monde qui fait et d\u00e9fait les r\u00e9putations, et les ventes aussi.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tL\u2019Inde est certes bien loin de l\u2019Europe. La sc\u00e8ne artistique indienne est peu organis\u00e9e, pour ne pas dire d\u00e9sorganis\u00e9e. A part en Inde, il y a peu d\u2019opportunit\u00e9s de voir le travail d\u2019artistes indiens. Il existe pourtant des centaines d\u2019artistes talentueux, jeunes et moins jeunes, qui ne demandent qu\u2019\u00e0 \u00eatre connus. Les galeries internationales manquent-elles de curiosit\u00e9\u00a0? Sont-elles trop pr\u00e9occup\u00e9es par les ventes \u00ab\u00a0attendues\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0? Ont-elles perdu le go\u00fbt d\u2019exposer des inconnus, celui de traquer les nouveaut\u00e9s\u00a0? Les galeries indiennes sont-elles \u00e0 la hauteur du d\u00e9fi international\u00a0? Sont-elles capables de d\u00e9couvrir la perle rare\u00a0? Sont-elles capables de la montrer, voire de la vendre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger\u00a0?\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tJe crois personnellement que tr\u00e8s peu de galeries indiennes jouent le jeu. Peu sont professionnelles. Peu ont la volont\u00e9 de d\u00e9couvrir les perles rares. Peu ont la capacit\u00e9 de prendre le risque essentiellement financier d\u2019organiser des expositions en dehors du sous-continent. Elles se contentent trop souvent du march\u00e9 local dans leur immense majorit\u00e9, un march\u00e9 fait d\u2019acheteurs trop souvent sous-expos\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019art en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral et l\u2019art contemporain en particulier. Peu viennent en Inde. Quand elles viennent, c\u2019est en coup de vent. Je me souviendrais toujours d\u2019un commissaire d\u2019exposition international en vue qui m\u2019avouait qu\u2019il n\u2019avait pas le temps de s\u2019int\u00e9resser \u00e0 une sc\u00e8ne aussi peu organis\u00e9e que l\u2019Inde. Quand il vient, il rencontre un ou une des 4 ou 5 artistes connus, se contente de visiter Bombay, parfois Delhi et repart 2 jours plus tard.\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n\t<div class=\"text\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n\t\tQui a tort\u00a0? Qui a raison\u00a0? Il a depuis quitt\u00e9 la diplomatie pour le monde des affaires mais il n\u2019a jamais perdu sa passion pour l\u2019Inde ; passion qui l\u2019a conduit a d\u00e9velopper un nouveau mod\u00e8le de d\u00e9veloppement pour les ONG indiennes.
